A BRIEF PERSONAL HISTORY

 

Born in 1948 in Ankara. Graduated from the School of Political Sciences of the Ankara University. (1968) Obtained the degrees of Public Administration and Urban and Regional Environmental Planning from the University of Southern California in the USA. (1976) PhD in Political Sciences (1991) Associate Professor in Political Sciences (Local Governments, Urbanization and Environmental Policies) (1996) Joined the corps of Turkish National Public Administrators at the Ministry of Interior in 1968 and worked at the field as sub governor and at the Headquarters. Participated in the establishment activities of the National Environmental Undersecreteriat as the acting undersecretary 1978-80. Employed by the UNICEF as the resident program officer with the capacity of heading the Ankara Office and representing UNICEF in Turkey between 1983-5. Assumed the task of municipal institutional development components at the Cukurova Urban Development Project of the World Bank between 1985-7. Provided consultancy services to several international organizations such as the Council of Europe, the OECD and the WHO and to several domestic institutions including industrial companies, municipalities and union of municipalities on environmental management, urban planning, urban management and institutional development in municipalities. Chairperson of the Committee on Environmental for the 7th National Development Plan. Chairperson of the National Structural Reform Committee on Environmental Management in Turkey. Consultant to and the Reporter of the President's State Inspectorates Council on the State Reform Project. Prof. Yasamis has worked in the following universities as fulltime member of the faculty: Sabanci University, Abant Izzet Baysal University, Istanbul Aydin University, American University in the Emirates (Dubai-United Arab Emirates) and Maltepe University. Acting Undersecretary of Environment Organization of the Prime Ministry of Turkey. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment between February 1998 and August 1999. Presented papers to more than 30 national and international conferences. Author of 11 books and more than 100 national and international articles. Prof. Dr. Yasamis returned from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) where he taught at the American University in the Emirates between 2012-5. Tasks assumed in this university include the Research Director, Program Director of MA in Diplomacy and Program Director of MA in Security and Strategic Studies.
